Andy V. Ta
Associate Attorney
Overview
Mr. Ta represents public entities as civil litigation defense counsel. His subject matters include general negligence, civil rights, police practices, premises liability, employment, discrimination, negligent supervision, and education law. He is involved in numerous stages of the civil litigation process, from initial case evaluation, law and motion, informal and formal discovery, client relationships, working with TPA claims examiners, depositions, experts, mediation, trial prep, and appellate work.
Mr. Ta has a consistent career in public law. He was formerly Deputy County Counsel for San Bernardino County, where his position focused on general public entity transactional and litigation matters, including PRA, CEQA, land use, education, Brown Act, employment, technology, civil liability, and general regulatory law. His experience also includes time at notable law firms where he also practiced public entity civil litigation defense.
His recent practice involved sensitive matters affecting public school districts, which posed unique difficulties and required special attention. Following West Contra Costa Unified School Dist. v. Superior Court, 103 Cal.App.5th 1243 (2024), he represented school districts in their strategy and preparation of appellate respondents’ briefs addressing the court’s interpretation of the Gift Clause. He has defended different types of AB 218 litigation claims, including statutorily “Complex Cases” involving numerous John Does and allegations over a substantial period.
In his spare time, Andy likes hanging out with family and collecting Legos.
