Lynberg & Watkins is proud to celebrate another successful outcome for the County of Orange, in which senior associate attorney Garros Chan obtained an award of $17,600 in monetary sanctions against an attorney Plaintiff representing themself.
Garros Chan lead the way by conducting extensive discovery and discovery motion practice wherein he ultimately filed six successful discovery motions against Plaintiff after Plaintiff refused and continued to refuse to provide code-compliant discovery responses. Plaintiff attempted to evade their discovery obligation by serving discovery responses that essentially pointed the Defense to over a hundred pages of documents without any particularity and, thereby, forcing the Defense to blindly sift through stacks of papers.
The Court, after reviewing Garros Chan’s six discovery motions to compel further responses and request for sanctions, ultimately agreed that Plaintiff’s gamesmanship should not be rewarded in any way and, thereby, ordered Plaintiff to not only serve supplemental responses but to also pay a significant amount of monetary sanctions: $17,600.
Congratulations to Garros Chan and the entire team on this outstanding result!
