Senior Counsel
Overview
John Burton focuses his practice on all aspects of civil litigation, with a particular emphasis on matters
involving the construction industry. He represents a broad range of clients, including public and private
owners, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, construction managers,
and consultants.
In addition to litigation, Mr. Burton provides strategic legal counsel to construction industry professionals on
issues such as business formation, contract drafting and negotiation, licensing compliance, and project
consultation throughout all phases of construction. His goal is to help clients proactively minimize risk
and resolve disputes efficiently when they arise.
Drawing on his prior experience working within the construction industry, Mr. Burton is uniquely attuned to
the practical and legal challenges faced by contractors and trades. He is committed to advocating for
those who perform work or supply materials on both public and private works of improvement.
Mr. Burton has a strong interest and background in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and frequently
leverages mediation and arbitration to achieve favorable outcomes for his clients.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine, where he was also a
proud member of the university’s surf team (Zot, Zot, Zot!).
